Shardabai Pawar College is recognised as one of the leading women’s colleges under Savitribai Phule Pune University. The college provides a supportive academic ambience for the all-round development of learners and has earned the trust of parents, students and stakeholders. The Strategic Plan 2022–27 outlines key directions for teaching–learning, infrastructure, student development, research and governance .

The college is dedicated to the cause of women’s education and strives to provide opportunities for academic excellence, skill development and character formation. Students from nearly eight districts seek admission to various programmes due to the college’s reputation, results and facilities.

Women’s education has been a core concern of Agricultural Development Trust, Baramati since its inception. The college has been consistently providing quality education to girls.

The current decade is marked by rapid changes and upheavals in economy, industry, employment, education and society. To provide intellectual leadership in this context, the institution must focus on quality improvement in all areas.

The Gross Enrolment Ratio in higher education in the state is below 25%, and women’s enrolment is still a matter of concern. The institution, dedicated to women’s education for over two decades, is recognised among the best women’s colleges in the state.

Key areas identified for improvement include:

Beyond the formal curriculum, student development through extracurricular and co-curricular activities is a key strategic area. Planned actions include:

  1. Organising various competitions and training programmes for students.
  2. Conducting entrepreneurship workshops and training sessions.
  3. Inculcating reading habits through a Readers’ Club, sustained with vigour.
  4. Establishing a Film Club to screen selected films to help students understand art and culture.
  5. Enhancing students’ taste in art, culture, drama and music by providing facilities within the institute.
  6. Organising NSS / NCC camps and sports camps at regular intervals.

Research is recognised as the foundation for advancement of knowledge. First-hand research exposure creates interest and encourages learners to pursue higher studies and research careers. Planned actions:

  1. Renovate laboratories to create more space for practical work.
  2. Procure advanced scientific instruments in laboratories.
  3. Allocate sufficient funds for laboratory materials and consumables.
  4. Provide internet connections to departments.
  5. Allocate small projects to students and support participation in scientific project competitions at University and State levels.
  6. Arrange visits to science institutes and industries for exposure to research and application.
  7. Submit research proposals to various funding agencies.
  8. Organise workshops, seminars and conferences at the institute.
  9. Support staff and students in attending seminars, conferences and workshops in other institutions.
  10. Encourage staff to publish their research findings.

Teaching and non-teaching staff are the main pillars of the institution. To help them meet emerging challenges, the college plans to:

  1. Organise training programmes for teaching and non-teaching staff.
  2. Assist staff to conduct research in their respective subjects.
  3. Organise visits of staff to leading institutions across the country.
  4. Enable select faculty to visit institutions of excellence overseas.
  5. Conduct in-house discussions on innovative methods adopted by various faculties.

The right ambience for learning is a priority. Over the span of the Strategic Plan, the college will:

  1. Renovate the library and construct / expand the reading hall.
  2. Create better sports facilities, sports fields and procure sports equipment.
  3. Renovate existing laboratories and construct new laboratories where needed.
  4. Create additional residential facilities for girls.
  5. Renovate classrooms and existing buildings.
  6. Expand overall infrastructural facilities to support growth.

Teaching–learning remains at the heart of the institution. Students from several districts join the college with high aspirations. Key actions over the planning period include:

  • Improving teaching–learning practices by cultivating and rewarding excellence and increasing contact hours between staff and students.
  • Enhancing ICT facilities in classrooms and departments.
  • Upgrading laboratories for advanced experimentation.
  • Inviting expert guest faculty to interact with students and provide specialised inputs.
  • Procuring high-quality reference books and expanding reading hall capacity.
  • Conducting intermittent tests, tutorials and mid-term exams to monitor understanding.
  • Providing support to slow learners and offering enrichment to advanced learners.
  • Offering add-on courses for career development and courses to enhance communication and language skills.

Planned initiatives to strengthen Institutional Social Responsibility:

  • Inculcate social attitude in students through NSS / NCC and social programmes.

4) Students – Conduct & Discipline

Part I: General Conduct

  • Maintain high standards of discipline and dignified behaviour on and off campus.
  • Abide by college rules and uphold its esteem.
  • Be punctual and attend all classes, seminars and presentations.
  • Follow dress code / uniform and wear identity cards.
  • Refrain from using mobile phones within campus as per rules.

Part II: Indiscipline & Misconduct (Illustrative)

  • Disruption of teaching, examinations or administrative work.
  • Use of unfair means or malpractice in examinations.
  • Damage or defacement of college property.
  • Wrongful confinement or harassment of staff or students.

  • Cybercrime and misuse of digital resources.
  • Ragging in any form and sexual harassment.
  • Assault, intimidation or insulting behaviour.
  • Forgery or misuse of college documents and ID cards.
  • Possession or consumption of tobacco, alcohol or narcotic drugs on campus (with specified penalties and possible expulsion).
  • Carrying weapons or dangerous materials.
  • Gambling, unauthorised occupation of hostel rooms or premises.
  • Pasting objectionable posters or defacing buildings.
