Zero Tolerance Towards Ragging

Shardabai Pawar Arts, Commerce & Science College strictly follows a Zero Tolerance Policy towards ragging. Ragging in any form – within or outside the campus, in classrooms, hostels, laboratories, canteen, playgrounds or during educational tours – is a punishable offence as per the directives of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India, UGC Regulations and Government of Maharashtra ordinance. Any student found guilty of ragging is liable for strict disciplinary as well as legal action, including suspension, expulsion and criminal prosecution.

UGC Directives – Definition & Prohibition

As per UGC directives and relevant State and Central laws, ragging is defined and prohibited as follows:

  • Ragging includes any disorderly conduct, teasing, rough or rude treatment, rowdy or undisciplined activities, obscene behaviour or actions causing annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm, fear or embarrassment to a fresher or any other student.
  • Forcing a student to perform acts against his/her will, or which cause shame or danger to life or limb, or indulging in eve-teasing, also amounts to ragging.
  • Ragging is prohibited within and outside the educational institution, including hostels and transport.

Penalties, Abetment & Undertaking

  • Any student who directly or indirectly participates in or abets ragging is liable to suspension, expulsion or rustication and a fine as per UGC and State norms. Additional actions include cancellation of admission, withholding of results, and withdrawal of scholarships or other benefits.
  • Failure of staff or authorities to act on complaints of ragging shall be considered deemed abetment and may invite disciplinary action.
  • Every student must submit a written Anti-Ragging Undertaking at the time of admission and at the beginning of every academic year, declaring that he/she will neither indulge in nor abet any form of ragging.
  • The Head of the Institution is responsible for taking immediate action on any complaint and for promptly lodging an FIR where required under the Indian Penal Code.
